Chef

Arturo Banuelos

I first started cooking at the age of 10. I helped my mom around the kitchen when she was sick and helped feed our whole family. From there, my love for cooking grew. Little by little I taught myself how to cook by watching the local free cooking channels, writing down recipes and notes in my notebook. When I was in high school, I took a cooking class. When I graduated high school, I decided I wanted to attend culinary school. I was fortunate enough to win a cooking competition, specifically for high schoolers. This competition gave me a scholarship and I attended the Art Institute of San Bernardino. After culinary school, I started working my way up in restaurants. Soon after, I became executive chef going to restaurant to restaurant, learning different kinds of cuisines and skills.

I’ve attended and won numerous culinary competitions such as winning 2nd and 3rd place in SoCal Chef at Pechanga. I have been very fortunate to travel all over Mexico, learning authentic Mexican cuisine: where I was able to cook for the president of Mexico, Vicente Fox. I specialize in comfort food and Mexican food, whereas Asian cuisine is my personal favorite. Since graduation from culinary school, I opened my own catering and food business; One of my businesses is a taco catering company called, “La Calaca”. My second company is Chef Arty LLC, where we teach cooking classes. I’ve worked and cooked for adults in rehab for seven years and I’ve been with Hillside Horizon for two years now.
