What Is Holistic Therapy?

Holistic therapy is an approach that goes beyond traditional counseling. It recognizes that mental health is deeply connected to the body, emotions, environment, and creativity. These therapies focus on helping teens find balance, express themselves, and reduce stress through physical movement, mindfulness, and experiential learning.

Our licensed professionals guide each session with safety and intention, ensuring that every experience is both therapeutic and meaningful.

Holistic Therapy Options at Hillside Horizon for Teens

We integrate a variety of holistic modalities into treatment plans based on each teen’s interests, emotional needs, and clinical goals.

Yoga Therapy for Teens

Yoga isn’t just about flexibility - it’s about finding calm in the chaos. Through breathwork, gentle movement, and mindfulness, our yoga sessions help teens manage anxiety, improve body awareness, and reduce emotional reactivity. It’s a powerful practice for grounding, stress relief, and restoring self-confidence.

Art Therapy for Teens

Some feelings are too big - or too complex - to put into words. That’s where art therapy comes in. Teens use painting, drawing, sculpting, and other creative mediums to explore their emotions, tell their stories, and work through difficult experiences. No art skills are required - just a willingness to create and express.

Music Therapy for Teens

Music is one of the most powerful emotional outlets for teens. Whether they’re writing lyrics, listening to meaningful songs, or playing instruments, music therapy helps adolescents tap into their feelings, reduce stress, and build a sense of identity. Sessions are led by trained music therapists who help teens connect with themselves through rhythm and sound.

Equine Therapy for Teens

Working with horses offers teens a unique opportunity to build trust, self-awareness, and emotional regulation. Horses are highly intuitive animals - they respond to our energy, behavior, and emotions in real time. In equine therapy, teens learn communication, patience, and responsibility, all while forming meaningful bonds with these gentle animals.

Breathwork Therapy for Teens

Breathing is something we all do - but few teens realize how powerful it can be for emotional healing. Breathwork teaches conscious breathing techniques to release tension, regulate the nervous system, and reduce anxiety. Many teens report feeling more relaxed, clear-headed, and empowered after just one session.

Adventure Therapy for Teens

Healing doesn’t always happen indoors. Adventure therapy encourages teens to step outside their comfort zones through guided outdoor experiences like hiking, team-building challenges, and nature exploration. These activities build resilience, self-esteem, and trust - all in a fun and engaging way that speaks to the adventurous teen spirit.

  • Engaging: Teens often open up more easily through activity-based therapy.
  • Empowering: These methods help teens discover new skills and strengths.
  • Regulating: Movement, creativity, and breathwork reduce emotional overload.
  • Nonverbal Expression: Teens can express deep feelings without needing the “perfect words.”
  • Integrative: Holistic therapy complements traditional methods like CBT or DBT.

Our holistic therapies are not “extras” – they are an essential part of our comprehensive treatment model. At Hillside Horizon for Teens, we care for the whole person:
