In the studio hour
A prompt, a material, a clinician who knows when to talk and when to let the page work. Not a crafts table.
When language runs out. Image, clay, and color as a way to say what cannot yet be said.
What this is
Art therapy here is facilitated by someone who understands trauma and adolescence. Drawing, paint, collage, clay. The goal is not talent. The goal is a way to show what they are carrying before they can say it. Individual therapy still leads. This is the room for when words are the problem.
What this hour is for
Shame, trauma, a thought they will not say. A page can hold it first.
ADHD, agitation, a teen who can only think while their hands are busy.
A self they can try on in color before they have to live it in the house.
Loss, a friendship that ended, a year they cannot narrate. Image first.
Good. We are not grading. Talent is irrelevant. Showing up with a mark is the work.
You get the theme, not the sketchbook. Privacy still holds unless safety crosses the line.
In the week
On the deck, in the studio, on the trail — the body first, then the story. Never a crafts hour tacked on.

01
A prompt, a material, a clinician who knows when to talk and when to let the page work. Not a crafts table.

02
What showed up in color often belongs in the therapy room that week. The two hours talk. The diary stays theirs.

03
A sketchbook that is allowed. A wall that is not. Making is a skill. Performing for the common room is not the method.
The work
A clinical tool, not a spa add-on. It sits beside individual therapy. It does not replace it.
A way to show the thing they cannot say. We do not force a caption. We ask when they are ready.
Trauma, shame, a teen who uses the page to disappear. The hour is clinical. The art is the medium.
The primary therapist knows the theme. We do not run a secret second therapy in the studio.
Side by side. Optional share. Some teens can only join the house this way first.
A teen who is flooded by materials, a safety concern, a no. Individual therapy still leads.
Your part
Art therapy is a method. Treatment includes you so you do not turn the sketchbook into a report card.
Show me what they made.
You get the theme. You do not get the page unless they offer it. Privacy still holds.
Hand them over and wait.
Family sessions get the meaning, not a gallery. You are not waiting in the parking lot.
Figure out Sunday later.
A way to make that is not a performance. We name it before discharge.
Length of stay
30
days in residence, by progress
Most stays land between one and three months. We do not pick a discharge date before the work is ready.
90
Art therapy sits inside the stay — a weekly hour, sometimes more, for the teens who can use it. Thirty to ninety days is the house. The page is one room in it. Aftercare is a next therapist, not an easel.
When to call
If they cannot say it — or they will not sit in a talking hour — call. We will be honest if this house is too much, or not enough.
