Our teen social anxiety treatment program is tailored to meet the unique needs of each adolescent. We combine evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure Therapy, with holistic approaches like yoga and art therapy to foster emotional resilience. Our serene Southern California locations provide a safe space for teens to address their fears, practice social skills, and develop coping strategies under the guidance of our dedicated clinicians.
Social anxiety in teens is more than just shyness – it’s an intense fear of being judged, embarrassed, or rejected in social situations. This condition can make everyday activities, like speaking in class or attending social events, feel overwhelming. For adolescents, social anxiety often stems from a combination of genetic, environmental, and developmental factors, and it can significantly impact their relationships, academic performance, and self-esteem if left untreated.
Recognizing the signs of social anxiety in teens is the first step toward getting help. Symptoms can manifest physically, emotionally, and behaviorally, often disrupting a teen’s ability to engage with peers or participate in school activities.
Diagnosing social anxiety in adolescents involves a comprehensive evaluation by a mental health professional. At Hillside Horizon for Teens, our clinicians conduct thorough assessments, including interviews with the teen and their family, behavioral observations, and standardized questionnaires. We explore the frequency, intensity, and impact of symptoms to ensure an accurate diagnosis and rule out other conditions, such as generalized anxiety or depression. This process helps us create a tailored treatment plan that addresses each teen’s specific needs.
If your teen’s anxiety is interfering with their ability to attend school, maintain friendships, or enjoy daily activities, it’s time to seek professional help. Early intervention can prevent social anxiety from escalating and impacting their long-term mental health. Look for signs like persistent avoidance of social settings, extreme distress in social situations, or declining academic performance. Hillside Horizon for Teens is here to provide the support your teen needs to regain confidence and thrive.
Hillside Horizon for Teens emphasizes the importance of early intervention in addressing trauma in teenagers. Professional support can provide the necessary tools for coping, resilience and reclaiming a sense of control over one’s life. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but a courageous step towards healing and building a foundation for a healthier future.
Treating social anxiety in teens requires a multifaceted approach that addresses both the emotional and behavioral aspects of the condition. At Hillside Horizon for Teens, we use a combination of therapies to help teens manage their anxiety and build confidence.
The duration of treatment varies depending on the severity of the anxiety and the teen’s response to therapy. Typically, our residential program lasts 30 to 90 days, with ongoing outpatient support available. Progress is monitored closely, and treatment plans are adjusted to ensure lasting results.
Our program includes individual therapy sessions, group therapy, and family involvement to create a supportive network for recovery. Teens participate in structured activities designed to gradually expose them to social situations in a controlled, encouraging environment. We also incorporate mindfulness practices and skill-building workshops to help teens develop healthy coping mechanisms.
At Hillside Horizon for Teens, we’re committed to helping teens overcome social anxiety and build a brighter future. Our compassionate team is available 24/7 to answer your questions and guide you through the admissions process.
Our program combines evidence-based therapies with experiential activities, such as role-playing and group outings, to help teens practice social skills in a supportive setting.
EXCELLENT Based on 95 reviews Posted on Paige StephensTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a truly terrible experience at the first residential facility we attended, so by the time we arrived at Hilltop, we were exhausted, discouraged, and honestly scared to hope again. From the moment we got there, it felt like another world. The staff was incredibly helpful, compassionate, and genuinely invested in my son and our family. They treated him like a human being, not a problem to manage. The support, structure, and care they provided made such a difference. My son has said multiple times that Hilltop was the best residential program , and that he would tell anyone who needed help to go there. As a parent, that means everything. Because of Hilltop, my son’s mental health has improved so much. He is now home, and he is truly a different kid than the one I left there — more stable, more confident, and more himself again. I will always be thankful that we found this place when we did. 10/10 would recommend for anyone that has a child struggling with their mental health.Posted on amanda avalosTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My daughter has been struggling with mental health troubles for the last couple of years but the last 6 months of 2025 were the most difficult. We tried a couple of different therapist, she was placed on several different holds, and the last straw was when she almost went to jail. Our family became too scared to allow her to be home, and we knew that a residential facility was our last option. We had no idea where to even begin looking BUT with less than 48 hours to find a place that met our standards, I heard of a residence called Hillside Horizons. Now, as a parent, we hear horror stories about the staff that care for children in certain residential treatment centers, but not at Hillside Horizons. From my very first frantic call until the day that my daughter was discharged EVERY STAFF MEMBER was AMAZING. They cared about my daughter, they protected her, they worked so INCREDIBLY HARD and she was able to process a lot of trauma she has suffered. She has come home and used the skills and structure they taught her. They use a point system for the kids to earn privileges, allowance, fun outings such as Magic Mountain, Sea World, the movies, and more! I can not express my gratitude and how thankful I am for Hillside Horizons. I feel a tremendous amount of love for this program. If you have made it this far into my review post, please trust me and call them! If your child is struggling and you're scared to send them to a facility, just know this: SO WAS I! The lord led our family to their doorstep, and they provided! This decision was by far the most difficult to make, but it was also the BEST DECISION WE HAVE EVER MADE! This experience has truly changed my entire family's life. Trust me and make the call.Posted on Willow AvalosTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Having a teenage granddaughter with severe emotional and mental challenges, we were desperately seeking help. I turned to the internet looking for a facility that could accommodate her needs. I began reading the negative reviews for multiple treatment centers and was getting more and more discouraged by what I read, until I came across Hillside Horizon for Teens. Their website was clear and informative, and their home settings seemed to be a much more nurturing environment than a sterile hospital atmosphere. After reading their many positive reviews, I decided to give them a call and was greeted by a person, not a machine. Aaron was a compassionate and friendly listener as I poured my heart out concerning our family struggles. He took the time to go over the programs, facilities and costs and thoroughly addressed all my questions and concerns. My granddaughter graduated from Hillside’s program in mid-September, and we couldn’t be happier with her progress. She has learned new coping skills and ways to navigate her depression and anxiety. Her grades have started to improve, and she is back to spending fun times with our family and her friends. We sincerely thank everyone involved in her care and would definitely recommend this program.Posted on TheMirroredGirlTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Saying that Hillside Horizon was an amazing experience was an understatement. I’d rate them a million stars if I could, but sadly I can’t (lol). From the wonderful care I received to the staff, it was truly an unforgettable experience. On my first day, I had just been in a really bad headspace from another residential. I was kicked out for an accusation of violence. I felt that residential had been the place that I belonged in, but I was wrong. I felt like I was the problem, but I wasn’t, and that was one out of many things I learned from Hillside. I had been standing at the edge of the driveway, backing away from one of the staff (Sydney), and she was so gentle and kind with me. I still remember that moment. She reassured me while we walked in, and she gave me breaks to process what I was doing on my first day. During my intake, I unfortunately passed out. I was taken to my (first) room (which was absolutely gorgeous and made me feel as comfortable as I could at that moment. After I recovered, I met another staff member: Mindy. She was a kind, pure-hearted, and empathetic person, and I’m grateful that I met her in the milieu first. I was afraid the staff would be cruel to me, just like my last place, but both Sydney and Mindy were nothing but kind. I was still verbally shut down, but Mindy accommodated that, and even gave me a pen so I could journal that night (If you’re reading this Mindy, yes I still have the second pen you gave me). She treated me with the most care I could ask for, and I’m so grateful. On my sixth day there, I ran away, and was sent to ETS (Emergency Treatment Services). Hedley (The previous therapist), promised me that I’d be back, and I was skeptical. When I was in my old residential, a therapist said the same thing to me, and I believed her. The next day, I found myself in the hospital, because they denied me, but Hillside kept their word, and I’m still grateful for it. They gave me so many chances, and they’re the only place that did. Every time I thought I’d get kicked out, they opened their arms to me again, and I thank them for that every day. After a while, I started actually wanting to get better. All the staff treated me so kindly, and it made me believe that I could actually succeed. I really wanted to trust that I could truly recover, and the progress I made while I was there was something that I would actually change for. Everyone (except the clients) made my treatment wonderful, and I’m glad that was the case. I was relentlessly bullied by the clients, specifically one that would always try to trigger me in the worst ways possible. I have BPD (diagnosed), and one of the staff there (Mindy) was the person I attached to. I was trying my hardest to change, but the client that I am referring to always mentioned how close she was to Mindy. I hated her with every fiber of my being. Even now, she pretends that she’s my friend, but I know that she’s just trying to get close so she can hurt me. However, when clients hurt me, Mindy was always there to defend me and make sure that I was okay. She stayed to comfort me when I desperately needed someone to talk to. She is such a kind soul and I wish her nothing but the best. Since I left, I always think of them and hope they are doing well. If you are looking for a good treatment center, I strongly recommend Hillside Horizon. Shoutouts to: Mindy, Sydney, Kristy, Hedley (former therapist), Caitlin, Berenice, Kassaundra, Alice, Andrea (former BHT), Felicia D. (current therapist), Felicia C. (Clinical director), Taylor (Program Director). They are all lovely people (yes that is all the staff). I know nocturnal shift isn’t on there, but I’m gonna be so honest, I don’t know how to spell their names. Thank you for your kindness Hillside. I’m eternally grateful. PCA My edit was removed on my own accordPosted on Michelle WilliamsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Words cannot describe my heartfelt appreciation to all Hillside staff, especially Team Richard. Seeing my teen paralyzed by his inability to accept and manage his depression and anger also left me with little hope to support him on my own. Hillside stepped in at the right time which prevent my son’s situation, going from bad to worse. Team Richard saved my son ❤️. Hillside’s program successfully set up my son to transition to long term residential care where he will focus on recovery and healing. Thank you to Hillside for teaching my son crisis management skills and redirection strategies that now comes naturally when he becomes anxious and face other emotional challenges.Posted on Tiffany BolyardTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A parents nightmare is watching their teen struggle and feeling like there was no where to go for help. Hillside Horizon came through for my son in ways I cannot describe. While I had to send my son across country it was well worth it. He spent 60 days there and came back with a major increase in coping skills and changed behavioral patterns. The case manager worked with us to find a step down program locally to us and made sure he was set up for continued success. All in all my son had a very pleasant experience and felt safe, cared for and understood.Posted on Sean WalkerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Not a big review guy but I felt compelled to share my pleasant experience about Hillside. I had been struggling with my 15-year-old son for the past three years. From self harm to acting out to running away from home, I have been deeply troubled with not knowing how to help him. From the first conversation I had with their CEO Anthony I had this undeniable feeling they were different and could actually help my son get better. I received much more than I ever could have expected from them. When people talk about what they’re actually going to provide I always take it with a grain of salt, but I can confidently say they delivered on every promise they made. From working with their clinical director Felicia and medical team we were collaboratively able to get my son to a point of stability that I haven’t seen for years. My son was very resistant to go to treatment when he initially found out that we were setting a healthy boundary with him. After a couple weeks, I couldn’t believe it but he was fully invested in the program and actually having a lot of fun while working through some of his demons. It has now been four months since he’s completed the program and this is the most clear I’ve seen him. His grades have improved slightly and although he is not perfect he has a new sense of confidence that has given me peace. If you are looking for a facility that has integrity and actually follows through with what they say on the front line, please do your research. I wish the facilities my son went to in the past had the same values as hillside Horizon. Thank you very much!
